SUBARU/IMBA TRAIL CARE SCHOOL
November
17-20, 2005
The Subaru/IMBA
Trail Care Crew selected the Jackrabbit Trail site for
one of the 70 stops during their busy 2005 Trail Care
School schedule. This school combines interactive
learning, hands-on trail work and top-notch
instructors and crew leaders. Topics include
designing sustainable/contour singletrack trails,
controlling water flow, building effective trail
structures and routine trail maintenance.
The Trail Care
School marks the initiation of the much anticipated
construction phase of the Jackrabbit Mountain Bike
and Hiking Trail in Clay County, NC. Mountain
bikers, land managers, hikers, trail runners, local
media and all trail advocates are invited to attend.
There is no fee
for this event, and meals will be provided Friday
evening, as well as lunch on Saturday and Sunday.
Pre-registration is requested of all attendees to
determine the amount of food and beverages

Dinner and
celebration of the initiation of the
operations/construction phase of the trail project
followed by the 'Around the World With IMBA' slideshow
presentation by the Subaru/IMBA Trail Crew leaders
Chris Bernhardt and Jill Van Winkle. This will be a
fun, social event to kick off the weekend and
introduce the public to the IMBA Trail Leaders along
with SABA, CCCRA and the USFS.
Saturday, November 19,

9:00 AM-12:00
Noon: IMBA Trailbuilding School. Meet at
Hayesville United Community Bank Meeting Room (located
at 95 Hwy 64 West)
1:00 PM- 4:00
PM: Field session located on-site at the
Jackrabbit Trail.
This part of the
school will go over the use of clinometers, the design
and lay-out of a contour trail, the use of grade
dips,etc.
Sunday, November 20,

PM: Jackrabbit Trail Site
The fieldwork will
be hands-on trailbuilding, so come prepared. You'll
probably be most comfortable in long pants and a
long-sleeved shirt. Wear sturdy shoes and bring
water, work gloves, snacks. If you have any
trailbuilding tools (pulaskis, McLeods, rakes, picks,
hoes) please bring them, too. SABA and IMBA have a
limited amount of tools on hand.
Note: It is preferred for everyone to attend
both the classroom and field sessions on Saturday and
Sunday, but if you can only attend one, it should be
the classroom. IMBA Crew Leaders prefer not to have
to repeat answering questions in the field about
things previously covered in the classroom.
