I ride there all the time & haven't been run over...yet.

 Stay to the right of the road & try to help folks when they want to pass.
And ignore the rare ass who hollors obsinities as they fly past & you'll be just fine.

Oh.. & keep a cell phone with you, ESPECIALLY if you ride alone. You never know when a flat, or worse, a crash may necessitate a call for help. And there's MMC's ER in the event you have a really crappy day.

Between you & me, we'll just hope the crappy day fairy sleeps in on the days we're riding. I've had one visit too many from her this year already.

Hi, and welcome to the site and the area!! I have been here for 3 years now and have not heard of one person getting hit or hitting a car anywhere around here. There have been a few dog incidents where dogs have run out and caused crashes and injuries. Just like Tammie said, ride on the right side of the lane and wave people around when it is clear and you will be fine. There are lots of riders in this area all over the back roads and main roads and most cars have seen riders before. Out of the time I have been here, I have ridden over 3000 road miles and only twice been yelled at by idoits. Once a plastic bottle was thrown at us by some teenagers. But out of all those miles, that's it. Where I came from in Florida it was normal to read in the paper about someone getting hit by a car. In my opinion this area is very tolerant of cyclists and most back roads have very little traffic anyway. I have ridden up and down Airport Road over there a bunch and have had no problems. Good luck to you and keep riding.

Mandy :D :D :D

We are getting a little more used to it. I bought mirrors for the bikes and that seems to help a lot. At least you get some kind of warning. Our problem is that we would like to leave the house on the bikes to take a ride without loading them on the car all of the time.We live off of a side road from 141 in Marble. That road will take time to get comfortable with.

Understand completely. Don't know if I'll ever get used to 141. One of our ride loop's overlap it for a mile or two & that's the only part of that ride I'm not fond of.

And I'm envious of Gerard & Cathy's walk out the door & hop on a bike location. To be able to live and bike with that kind of convience is paradise.

Maybe someday...

You should ride in Atlanta a few times in some of the group rides there, then it wouldn't matter what road you were on here,

the river road from Murphy to the Hospital in Peachtree is the only road around here I just absolutely won't ride, and its signed as a bicycle route .

That is soooo true! Can't believe I've lived here all my life & missed so much. When I get on the bike I happily revert to my inner child...curious about the most minute insect or simple flower & finding delight in everything but mass development. But then again, I'm just ever so glad to be on the bike.

Sounding like a child of the '60's ain't I? Oh wait! ...I am!

There's always gravel roads. Way better scenery, little or no traffic, no dog problems, dosen't take as much milage to get your ride in. What's not to love,_ _ _ _ _ _ _ just a suggestion.
Sometimes I wake up grouchy_ _ _ _ _ _ others I let her sleep.

6 times!? You haven't given the area a chance! We live in Andrews and ride through Marble nearly everyday. It is cycling paradise here. I had almost quit riding the last year or so we lived in Atlanta. Living in WNC has rekindled my passion for cycling.
